After much deliberation (and a lot of watching the weather), the RPHOA has made the difficult decision to close the hockey and leisure rinks for the season.
Like many outdoor rinks across Calgary this year, the fluctuating temperatures over the past several weeks have made it extremely difficult to maintain safe ice. The rinks have melted down to concrete several times, and despite rebuilding them more than once, large patches are currently back to bare concrete. With City water restrictions beginning Monday, March 9, we would also be unable to flood and rebuild the ice for enjoyment in the coming weeks.
If members of your household were registered in the skating and/or hockey skills programs, you will be contacted within the next three business days to arrange refunds for the missed classes. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work behind the scenes to resolve this for you.
We know this is disappointing for our skaters and hockey players, and we truly appreciate everyone who came out to enjoy the rink whenever Mother Nature cooperated this winter.
The good news is that with the end of one season comes the beginning of the next! As conditions allow over the coming weeks, we look forward to opening the pickleball courts, basketball courts, and mobile skate park for another great spring at the HOA.
Thank you for your understanding, Rockland Park — we look forward to seeing everyone back outside soon!
